Pull-up bar at home: wall, ceiling, rack or door frame
Four mounting methods, four completely different sets of conditions. Which one suits you depends on your subsurface, your ceiling height, and whether you are even allowed to drill.
Learn your first pull-up: hanging, assisted repetitions and controlled lowering
In short
A wall bar saves floor space if the wall construction and fixings suit the specific device. Without permission to drill, consider a rack explicitly suitable for freestanding use. Every option needs sufficient movement space and a suitable load rating for its pull-up attachment. We currently do not stock ceiling or doorway bars.

The four types of installation
Wall, ceiling, rack or doorway: which mounting suits you?
Walls and ceilings carry load through their fixing points; a rack through its frame and specified installation. A bar added to an existing rack must fit that system. A freestanding unit also needs floor and movement space. Doorway bars may clamp or hook over the frame and are not all built the same way. Follow the specific model’s installation and use instructions for every type.
First check permission to drill and the known wall or ceiling construction. Then measure room height, grip height and movement space. If you already have a rack, check its compatible pull-up attachment before adding a wall bar. For squats and bench presses, the rack’s equipment also matters.

Wall pull-up bar
Wall-mounted pull-up bar: what matters regarding the wall
For wall mounting, the device, wall construction and fixings must work together. Tapping the wall does not prove its load capacity. Plasterboard or a lining alone is not a confirmed mounting base for the wall bar shown here. If the construction is unknown, clarify the material, load-bearing structure, services and suitable fixings before drilling. Supplied mounting hardware is not automatically suitable for every wall.
The product page lists the Pull Up Bar as 133 cm wide, 79 cm high and 81 cm deep overall; the grip bar sits about 77 cm from the wall. Fixing positions come from the installation drawing, not simply grip height minus overall height. Check the full mounting area and the clear movement space in front.

- CHF 70.-
- 133 cm grip width
- 77 cm wall clearance
- 3 cm grip diameter
- max. 200 kg
- Art. F-93323
Wall-mounted steel bar, 133 cm wide and 77 cm away from the wall. The large wall clearance is the main feature: space for wide grips, and knees won't hit during leg raises. Mounting hardware is included.
Ideal for: massive walls, cellars and garages where the floor is to remain clear.
View pull-up barPull-up bar ceiling
Pull-up bar on the ceiling: when it makes sense and when it doesn't
A ceiling bar can make sense if the selected mounting point and fixings suit the loads. The load-bearing structure matters, not the visible lining. A suspended ceiling alone is not a mounting base. Hollow constructions or unknown joist layouts need site-specific assessment. Allow full movement space below and around the bar.
At Fitness-Flohmarkt we currently do not carry a ceiling-mounted pull-up bar. Anyone looking for one will not find it with us. If you lack wall space, a freestanding model from the Rack category the more practical answer.
Freestanding pull-up bar
Freestanding pull-up bar: the solution that requires no drilling
Freestanding means the specific model may be used without wall or floor anchoring under its instructions. The Home Rack Essential page explicitly states that floor fixing is not required. Its footprint is 143 x 123 cm; the R-SERIES Power Rack measures 152 x 133 cm. These are installation dimensions only. Movement space, access and intended use come on top. A generic floor-area figure does not replace that assessment.
You get more than just a pull-up bar for that: both racks have the pull-up attachment integrated, and the power rack additionally features J-hooks and safety bars. On parquet and laminate floors Floor protection mats under the legs.

R-SERIES Power Rack
- CHF 490.-
- 152 x 133 x 214 cm
- 500 kg load capacity
- 90 kg net weight
- Art. F-55936
Four posts, 26 mm hole spacing, pull-up bar, J-hooks, and safety bars included. With a dead weight of 90 kg, it stands solidly without being bolted down. For pull-ups, however, we still recommend anchoring it to the floor.
Ideal for: basement gyms where, in addition to pull-ups, heavy barbell training is done.
View power rackCeiling height
How much ceiling height do you need for pull-ups?
Measure room height to the lowest obstruction, such as a beam, light or pipe. Then use the actual grip height. Above it, you need clearance for the highest head position in your planned movement; below it, room to hang, possibly with bent legs. Check access to the bar separately. The R-SERIES Power Rack’s stated 215 cm minimum ceiling height concerns installation, not automatically sufficient headroom for training.
A: clearance between the grip bar and the lowest obstruction. B: grip-bar height above the floor. C: wall clearance and movement space in front. The diagram shows measuring points only, not mandatory installation distances.
The Wall-Mounted Rig shown has 275 cm uprights. The height of the grip bar actually used and the clearance above it need separate checks. A 275 cm overall device height therefore does not establish sufficient training height. Measure the room and obstructions first, then the planned grip position.

Outdoor pull-up bar: what is different outside
Permanent outdoor installation requires a device explicitly intended for it and suitable fixings. Powder coating alone does not confirm weather resistance. The indoor products shown here are therefore not recommended as outdoor solutions. Insulated façades also require suitable anchoring in the load-bearing structure.
Recommendation by situation
What is worth it for whom
Condominium with a concrete wall
You can drill; the wall is solid, and the floor should remain clear. Take the Wall-mounted pull-up bar for CHF 70.00. It doesn't get any cheaper or more space-saving than this.
Rental Apartment Without Permission to Drill
No hole, no discussion with the administration. That freestanding beginner rack for CHF 295.- takes up just under 1.8 m² and is moving with you.
Basement gym with barbell
If squats and bench presses are added, the separate barbell is the detour. Power Rack with pull-up bar provides these features. Check device height and your personal headroom separately.
club, studio, or high garage
For multiple trainees, the wall-mounted solution with multiple stations is worthwhile. The Wall rig with three pull-up positions has 275 cm uprights; training clearance depends on grip position and comes on top.
Frequently Asked Questions
Buying a pull-up bar: the most important answers
How high does a pull-up bar need to be mounted?
Height must suit your hang, access to the bar and headroom. Measure grip height and the lowest obstruction separately. Hanging with bent legs can be practical under a low ceiling. A generic two-hand-width rule or overall device height alone is not enough for planning.
Does a pull-up bar hold in a drywall?
Plasterboard or a lining alone is not a confirmed mounting base for the wall bar shown. Tapping proves neither the material nor its load capacity. Mounting into a load-bearing component behind it requires appropriate installation and fixing assessment.
Can I install a pull-up bar without drilling?
Among the models shown, the CHF 295.- Home Rack Essential, explicitly suitable for freestanding use, is the option without floor fixing. Other racks need their own instructions checked. Doorway bars come in clamp and hook-over designs; we currently do not offer them.
How much weight does a pull-up bar need to hold?
Check the specific pull-up attachment’s permitted load, including added weight and intended movements. The shop lists the Pull Up Bar at a maximum of 200 kg. The racks’ 300 and 500 kg figures must not automatically be treated as ratings for their pull-up bars. Fixings and the mounting base must also suit the use.
How much does a pull-up bar cost in Switzerland?
At Fitness-Flohmarkt, the wall-mounted pull-up bar starts at CHF 70. A freestanding rack with an integrated pull-up bar costs from CHF 295, the fully equipped R-SERIES Power Rack CHF 490, and a wall rig with three pull-up positions CHF 395. The price difference reflects how much more the equipment can do besides pull-ups.
Do I need an additional band if I can't do a pull-up yet?
A long resistance band is the simplest support: you hang it over the bar, place one foot inside it, and at the lowest point it takes off the most weight. Which band strength relieves how much weight is stated in the Resistance Bands Buying Guide. The only important thing is that the bar has no sharp edges.
Sure, which mounting fits you?
