Buying and hanging gymnastic rings: material, straps and space

Rings need little storage space, but training requires a suitable support and clear movement space. This guide helps you choose material, grip thickness and straps, using an actual wooden ring set from our shop and an honest check of your available space.

In short

For a dry training space, our CHF 35.– wooden rings are a simple option: two rings, two adjustable straps and a 32 mm grip. Buy them if you have a support suitable for ring training. Check usable strap length, clearance and the entire attachment system first. The shop’s 200 kg figure does not certify your ceiling or pull-up bar.

Wooden or plastic rings: where will you train?

In a basement, training room or studio, hand feel matters. Wood has a different surface from smooth plastic; try the grip if possible. No material works equally well for every hand and moisture level. Our rings are wooden. Plastic is discussed as a construction type, not as a second available shop model.

Outdoor use requires an explicit suitability statement for the intended conditions, including straps and buckles. Plastic alone does not make a set weatherproof. Our wooden rings’ product page does not specify suitability for permanent weather exposure. Plan dry storage and do not leave them in the rain. Do not train with wet or damaged rings or straps.

32 mm grip thickness is different from 23.5 cm ring diameter

Two separate dimensions matter. Grip thickness is the cross-section your hand wraps around: 32 mm on our wooden set. The separately listed ring diameter is 23.5 cm; that figure alone does not describe hand feel. Choose a thickness you can control rather than simply the largest ring.

During a grip test, check that you can hold the ring securely and that its surface is even and undamaged. Thicker does not automatically mean more comfort or better results. A hands-on check is especially useful for small hands or an unfamiliar grip. A load rating does not answer the fit question.

Choose straps by usable length, not just total length

Each ring hangs from its own strap. Both must adjust to the same intended height on your support. Some strap length goes around the support and through the buckle, so total length is not the distance from support to ring. Measure support height and decide how low the rings need to sit for your intended exercises.

Our set includes two adjustable quick-release straps. The product page does not state exact strap length or usable adjustment range. If your ceiling is high or you need rings close to the floor, check these dimensions with us before ordering. Thread straps only as instructed for the specific buckle; there is no universal threading direction.

Hang rings by checking the support first

A suitable rig crossmember can carry two separate straps. A pull-up bar is not automatically approved for every pulling direction or added ring suspension. Check its instructions, mounting and intended use with rings. Hanging rings from a pressure-fit doorway bar or door anchor does not create an approved ring station.

For ceiling mounting, the bracket, fixings and building structure must all suit the intended training. Do not select anchors using only the ring set’s kilogram figure. Have an unknown ceiling assessed by a qualified person. The wooden set’s “200 kg maximum” is neither approval of your installation nor blanket permission for swinging, added weights or two users at once.

How much space and ceiling height do rings need?

No single ceiling height works for every ring exercise. Low support movements need different ring heights from a free hang. Your body needs room above the ring along the intended movement path; below it, feet and legs must either clear the floor or have deliberate ground contact. A compact stored set still requires a clear training area.

  1. Measure support height and intended ring height to determine required usable strap length.
  2. Allow for the whole movement: head, elbows, feet and forward or backward lean need clearance.
  3. Choose strap spacing for the approved setup and exercise; adjust both rings to equal height.
  4. Before each use, inspect wood, straps, stitching, buckles and mounting. Apply load under control according to the instructions.

Planning movement clearance does not test an unknown structure’s load capacity. Ring rows and push-ups are mentioned here for space planning, not as a complete technique or training programme.

Optional for an existing R-SERIES rig

The R-SERIES A-Hanger costs CHF 95.– and, according to the shop, mounts at the top of an R-SERIES rig. Rings are a listed use. Depending on use, the rig also requires floor anchoring. Confirm the exact configuration and permitted loading before buying; this is not a universal ceiling bracket or confirmed fit for other racks.

Check the R-SERIES A-Hanger

The ring set and A-Hanger total CHF 130.– if the suitable rig is already in place. This does not automatically cover additional fixings or installation. Prices checked on 28.10.2026, including VAT and excluding delivery. Product data and photos come from our shop; this guide is not our own load test or tested product comparison.

Rings, suspension trainer or parallettes?

Rings suit you if you deliberately want two freely moving handles for bodyweight work and have suitable mounting. For a suspension trainer with a door anchor and the difference from TRX, use our existing trainer guide. For support work without hanging straps, compare parallettes instead. You do not need all three systems.

Frequently Asked Questions

Gymnastic rings: key questions answered

How much do rings with straps cost?

Our wooden set costs CHF 35.– including two rings and two adjustable straps. Structural mounting is not included. Price as of 28.10.2026, including VAT, excluding delivery.

How thick is the wooden ring grip?

Grip thickness is 32 mm. The separately listed ring diameter is 23.5 cm. If possible, try the grip to check comfort and control.

How long do the straps need to be?

Usable length must match support height, ring height and strap routing. Our product page does not state exact strap length. Check before ordering for a high ceiling or low exercises.

Can I hang rings from any pull-up bar?

No. The bar, its mounting and intended pulling directions must be suitable and approved for ring use. The ring set’s load figure does not approve the bar.

Are wooden rings suitable outdoors?

Our wooden rings are not specified for permanent weather exposure. Plan dry storage and check approvals for rings, straps and buckles. Plastic material alone does not make a whole set weatherproof.

What ceiling height do rings need?

It depends on exercise, body size, support and usable strap length. Plan the whole movement above, below and beside the rings. One fixed minimum for every exercise would be misleading.

Will the wooden ring set fit your training space?

If support and strap range fit, CHF 35.– buys a complete pair with straps. Unsure about dimensions? Send support height and intended ring height. We can clarify product data; the building structure’s capacity needs assessment on site.

Why does shipping cost more than usual?

We completely understand if the amount comes as a bit of a surprise at first. When buying clothes or books, people are used to low shipping costs. However, fitness equipment is heavy and bulky – and that is precisely what makes transport expensive.

Here is the breakdown of the shipping costs:

Fair and transparent: Many shops hide shipping costs in the product price. We don't – you only pay what the transport actually costs. That's why our product prices stay low.

Therefore, the amount in the cart is an estimate. You will see the exact price at checkout as soon as you enter your postal code – even before you pay.
